2017 Postings Analysis: Energy Industry Legal Roles
As the only search group in the country devoted exclusively to in-house legal positions in the energy industry, we’re in a unique position to share insight from the expertise we’ve gained and cultivated over the last 15 years. One area where we can offer a proprietary set of data is relevant job postings. We diligently track postings by practice area and level.
Monthly and Quarterly
Monthly postings were higher in March, May, and September; and were relatively lower in June and December; but the overall spread was minimal. The quarterly numbers were also pretty consistent. Q1 and Q2 were comparable while Q3 lead by 7% and Q4 only trailed by 4%.
The 2016 numbers were similarly flat: there’s really no trend toward a time of year that has more or less activity than others.
Years of experience in demand
Remember that the minimum years required is just that – the minimum. The sweet spot for minimum years of experience required has remained in the 5-9 year range. Interestingly, the 0-4 year range jumped almost 10% from 24.67% in 2016.
Practice Area
We track the general practice area, and then break down the corporate, regulatory, and transactional functions.
